It was my birthday last week, and it was a very good one. There was lots of sunshine, great company, and food. On your birthday, you get to eat lots and lots of treats, put the kids in front of movies and read a good book, do very little housework (you know, all of the things I normally do) - but on your birthday, you don't feel guilty about it. You just let yourself enjoy life. We should all have birthdays more often except then I guess they wouldn't be as special - plus I'd be even older.
At least Jef has a birthday close to mine. That means he gets older along with me. Also, since his is right after mine, I can see what he gets me before I decide what to buy him.
So, here are some random lists to help me celebrate the last 31 years of my life:
Top three ways I know I'm getting old:
3 - I look at the clock at 10 pm and say, "Oh, I didn't mean to stay up so late."
2 - I get sore from weird simple things, like painting or playing catch.
1 - When I drive Jef's truck I find every single station is set to talk radio. True, that makes Jef old and not me, but it makes me feel old to be married to such an one.
Top three naughty things my kids have done lately:
3 - Peed and/or pooped places that they shouldn't have. (No names mentioned, to protect the not-so-innocent.)
2 - Snuck food out of the pantry and ate it in my bed while watching movies in my room. I hate this because when I go to sleep I can feel crumbs all over the sheets.
1- Plugged the sink in my bathroom, turned the water on full blast, and let it run for long enough to run all over the floor and directly down the heat vent that is also directly over the furnace. Luckily, the one night we spent without heat for fear of starting an electrical fire passed quickly (and the kids stayed in bed better than usual.)
Top three ways I've wasted my time lately:
3 - Trying to beat Taylor at Mario Cart. This is only a waste of time because it is impossible. If I could actually win, it would so be time well spent.
2 - Trying to get the laundry done and the house cleaned. (I mean come on, five minutes later you can't tell I did a single thing.)
1 - Watching every movie available at the local redbox while Jef has been doing his homework.
Top five things that cheer me up when I am frustrated:
5 - Listening to music.
4 - Good books and warm baths.
3 - Jef watching the kids and me getting to go to the adult session of Stake Conference alone. I forgot what it felt like to sit through a good meeting. *Note, looking forward to Stake Conference might also go on the list of ways to know when I am getting old.
2 - Going outside in springtime weather.
1 - The gap in Logan's teeth when he smiles.
Top three expressions used in our home:
3 - You never cook what I like.
2 - What? I don't see anything that needs cleaning up.
1- That is so not fair!
Top three dates Jef and I have been on lately:
3 -
2-
1 -
(Does taking turns walking Logan in the middle of the night count?)
Top three things I like about being a mom right now:
3 - When I see the kids doing nice things for each other. Like today when Hannah and Jono were holding hands.
2 - That my kids are not old enough yet to be embarrassed to be seen with me.
1 - That I have excuses to play fun games, read children's books, make silly faces, and color pictures of trains and princesses.
P.S. Here is a video of how Logan "crawls." He is super fast. And he always crawls like this, even when he's not pushing a train.

Apparently it's time for another cousin playdate with you guys because Emily just watched that video clip 4 times and is telling me that her cousin, Hannah, is her best friend, and that we need to play with her today. ;)
Bring me your kids one of these days and surprise Jef by taking him out for lunch. That would be a nice date, fo sho.
Your floor looks really clean as Logan scoots across it. See, you did something right.
Gg
We share similar getting old attributes (only mine is accelerated by a year). Happy Birthday Julie! And by the looks of that video, perhaps Logan is getting a little more independent (if only in the daytime)?
